INSPECTIONS

Vehicle inspection programs make sure vehicles meet the safety standards required by law. These inspections keep vehicles safe and enhance safety for all Saskatchewan drivers.

SGI and law enforcement officers can subject any vehicle to a test or inspection, or require that specific problems are repaired. If you're asked to have your vehicle inspected or repaired and you don't take it in:

  • your vehicle's registration and insurance may be cancelled; or

  • your registration renewal can be refused.

You won't be able to register your vehicle until you have it inspected or repaired.

The Vehicle Inspection Regulations and The Vehicle Inspection Procedure Regulations give details on:

  • vehicle inspection program requirements

  • fees

  • inspection facilities

  • technician requirements

Structurally and mechanically unfit vehicles

Before a vehicle can be registered in Saskatchewan and depending on its condition, it first needs to pass 1 or possibly both of these inspections:

  1. Mechanical safety inspection - determines if the vehicle is mechanically safe to drive

  2. Body integrity inspection – determines if the vehicle’s frame and body is structurally safe to drive
